CARDIFF CITY'S directors were meeting today to decide their transfer strategy for 2009 ahead of a final assault on promotion to the Premiership.

In a D-day meeting vital to the club's future, chairman Peter Ridsdale and the rest of the Bluebirds board will discuss tactics before the transfer window opens on January 1.

City chiefs see this as the perfect moment to kick on, with Dave Jones' side in fifth place in the Championship table and a new stadium opening next season.

BLUEBIRDS chairman Peter Ridsdale has branded his manager Dave Jones - 'simply the best,' writes Steve Tucker.

The Cardiff City boss had been linked with a move to Blackburn Rovers until Sam Allardyce was installed at Ewood Park yesterday.

Jones' stock is on the rise after guiding City to last season's FA Cup final and leading City to fifth in the Championship table with half the season gone.

Ridsdale has insisted all along Jones is going nowhere and said he did not fear further approaches for his manager in the future.

DARREN Purse admits he is ready to sign a new Cardiff City contract - but only if the terms are right for him.

The experienced central defender is due to sit down with manager Dave Jones over the next couple of weeks and is keen to put pen to paper.

But he will not put his desire to stay at the club above his family.

"I need a chat with the chairman (Peter Ridsdale) and the gaffer (Dave Jones) over the next week or so," said Purse. "Right now I need to look after Darren Purse. I have a wife and family and I need to make sure we are looked after. It's not all about City.

"Don't get me wrong, I love playing for this club. I love being captain and would love to lead the team out when our new stadium opens.

CARDIFF CITY goalkeeper Peter Enckelman admitted the dilapidated condition of Ninian Park and the state of the pitch is making his job harder.

The Finnish international, who has recently forced his way back into the Bluebirds side, has spoken out ahead of Saturday's home clash with Sheffield Wednesday.

And, after featuring in last month's South Wales derby, Enckelman has praised facilities ar Swansea's Liberty Stadium and hopes the Bluebirds' new home, due to open next summer, will be of a similar standard.

"No disrespect to Ninian, but the stadium is getting old and especially on windy days you know that ground is very open," said Enckelman.
