Barker signing to take spending to £8m

The deal, still reported to be costing Cardiff upto £600,000, is ongoing with Barker undergoing a medical today.

When completed it will take Sam's spending on players to the £8m mark. Barker will join other big money signings like Peter Thorne (£1.7m), Graham Kavanagh and Andy Campbell (both £1m), Daniel Gabbidon (£800K), Spencer Prior (£700K) as well as Rhys Weston, David Hughes and Gavain Gordon who all cost around £500K.

Add to that the £3m that Sam paid for the club he has invested around £11m into Cardiff City in just less than 2 years.

Promotion was nearly achieved last season. City missing automatic promotion by a point and missing the play off final by a whisker. Expectation this time around will be even higher. With so much money spent the fans will see it as a right to get promoted, it's not. We will have to work hard and cut out the errors that affected us early in the last campaign.

If Lennie starts the season the way he ended last season we will be right up there.

We have the most expensive squad in the division, we have some of the very best players in the division and probably one of the best squads the club have ever put together. If there was ever a time to get it right it has to be now.
