Nine out of 10 Trust members and non-members backed the idea of a permanent voice for fans in the board room, according to the results of our annual survey.
The survey also found very strong backing for a Safe Standing area at the Cardiff City Stadium, if the law allows. A total of 85% of members backed the idea with 87% when members and non-members are counted.
A total of 544 responded to the survey.
Other findings from the survey included:
- 44% of members were happy with the match day experience – down from 58%in 2014
- 96 % of members were happy with the way the Trust has performed –up from25%
- 94% of members described the past 12 months following Cardiff City as disappointing – up from 76%
- 60% of members while 50% of members and non-members overall said they would buy a season ticket in 2015-16
Tim Hartley, chair of Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust, said: “These results send a clear message to our football club that fans want to see a supporter director on the board as happens at other clubs, such as Swansea City, Portsmouth and Newport County.
“An elected fans’ director could focus on developing strong links between the supporters and the club. This would be help both Cardiff City and the supporters put the last two-and-a-half years and the argument over the unwanted rebrand behind them.”
“The full results of the survey have been available to the club and we will be raising the issue at a meeting with the board tomorrow. We hope that Mr Tan and the board will reflect on the views of fans and move towards increasing supporter involvement in Cardiff City.
Trust board member Jon Day, who organised the poll, said: “Thanks to every Trust member and non-member who took the time to complete the survey. It is great to get the views of fans.”
Comments from fans included:
- The only good thing about the last 12 months has been the return to Blue
- I have a feeling that the club is taking our support for granted and few at the club care about it
- The stadium and its facilities are very good, but the match day atmosphere is not.
- The uncertainty at the top caused real concern. We have never been stable over the last 12 months and I think that took its toll on the players. Also the fact that we are starting to sign older players from lesser clubs that mostly have lower league experience is concerning.
- Disjoint between owner, board, management, player and our supporters. Time to sort the future out, what do the board want and how we will achieve as CLUB!
