St James Park
They join West Brom as the three teams stepping down a division. Newcastle failed to get the point they would have needed to keep them up and Alan Shearer and the so called best fans in the world are down. Cardiff last played at St James Park in 1984 when over 27,000 saw a 3 - 1 home win. You have to go back to 9th November 1963 to find a Cardiff victory away at Newcastle. A 4 - 0 win with scorers of the calibre of Allchurch and Charles on the scoresheet that day. That game took place 13 days before John F Kennedy was shot.

Newcastle's ground now holds over 50,000 and will easily be the biggest ground in next seasons Championship.

Congratulations today to Burnley who won promotion at Wembley. So Sheff Utd, Preston and Reading stay in the Championship after missing out in the play offs.

Coming up from League 1 are Leicester, Peterborough and Scunthorpe. Scunny beat Millwall in the play off final at Wembley on Sunday.
