Cardiff City are set to sign Wigan Athletic's Wales midfielder Emyr Huws in a permanent deal.

Huws, 22, has won seven caps for Wales but was not part of the 23-man squad for Euro 2016.

"There is an interest in Emyr, he's a player we like," Cardiff manager Paul Trollope said.

"Huws we are looking to sign [rather than loan] and hopefully that will progress."

Llanelli-born Huws left Swansea City as a youngster and started his professional career at Manchester City, where he made one first team appearance.

He joined Wigan Athletic in July 2014 but has failed to secure a regular first team spot and spent the 2015-16 season on loan at Huddersfield Town.

Trollope worked with Huws during his time as a member of Chris Coleman's Wales coaching team.

The Bluebirds manager is keen to add to his squad before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

"We are still looking in other areas as well, we know what we need and why we need them," Trollope added.

"We are aware of where we need to improve."

Trollope said midfielder Stuart O'Keefe suffered a suspected broken arm inCardiff's 1-0 defeat to Bristol Rovers in the EFL Cup first round.
