City to open talks with Ledley

Firstly his agent said on Friday that Joe was going to see out his current contract and leave City on a free transfer in 18 months. At the same time stories are coming out that Joe is a £6m January target for Everton and Stoke.

Now though Cardiff have told of talks with Joe and his agent about a new contract at Cardiff. Ledley has skippered the side from central midfield the last three matches with City picking up 7 points from 9.

"I spoke to Joe briefly a few weeks ago about a new contract," revealed Peter Ridsdale.

"I talked to his agent on Saturday and now we need to sit down and decide what is going to happen."

Dave Jones, who was critical of Ledley's agent, wants Joe to stay but is realistic enough to admit if a big moiney offer comes in it will be difficult to keep him.

"We want to keep Joe," said Jones,

"I've read Everton are coming in with £6m, but they don't have that sort of money.

"Let the price keep going up and up and up. We are trying to keep all our players.

"But if the right price comes in for any players we have to survive.

"That's the parameters I know I have to work within.

"If we are doing well then maybe the players won't want to leave.

"Everybody at this club wants only one thing - Premier League football."
