Dave Jones is looking forward to the Cardiff City challenge ahead of him. After a break of 8 months since being dismissed by Wolves he's ready for another crack at taking a team to the top flight.

I feel I'm a Premier League manager," said Jones

"I want to take Cardiff there because if you can't get a club in the Premier League you've got to take one into it. I did that at my last club."

The Liverpudlian will, alongside assistant Terry Burton, look at the squad of players he has inherited and look to turn a team that just survived in the Championship to a team that could head towards the top of the table.

"I know it's a cliche in football but when you have a new manager it does mean a clean slate for everyone," he continued.

"There are good players here. There might be players here who haven't performed but might get a new lease of life with a new manager. Sometimes a change can be a good thing.

"Terry tells me they're a good bunch of lads and I'm looking forward to working with them. Cardiff stayed up last season. They fought and staved off relegation. That tells me one thing - the players have got battling qualities.

"What I can promise them is that the work ethic is going to be a lot harder. The demands I put on them will be great."

Jones has laid his stall out from the start. He will be the boss.

'I will make the decisions regarding the football side - that's why Sam has brought me here,' he told the Echo.

'At all the clubs I have worked at, the people who run them have put a lot of money into them so they are entitled to have their opinion.

'But its my head that is on the chopping block so I will decide on the players I bring in."
