Gregan. The missing link

WBA have stalled by saying they wanted a player swap with Earnie, then it was we are not letting anyone go until we have brought players in.

Well that has happened now and Lennie is looking to get something sorted.

"It's no great secret I'm interested in Sean Gregan," Lennie told the Wales On Sunday. "I've spoken to Gary Megson and so far I haven't been able to take it forward. I've left a message for him because they might be ready to do it now.

"If he gives me the nod and we can agree a fee it could be done as soon as possible."

Lennie would like him in before next Saturday's trip to Crewe. A fee thought to be around £300,000 - £400,000 would be involved.

"There's no chance of it happening before the Lazio game and there's no certainty there can be anything done before we go to Crewe. We will offer what we can offer and if they're not ready then there's nothing we can do. I will wait if I have to.

"He's a leader, he can play in the back and in midfield, he can head the ball, strong, he's been in promotion sides and he can pass it. He's a rare one.

"I think - in their view - the reason they have let him go is that he will fall a wee bit short in the Premiership at this moment in time. In my opinion when Cardiff City get to the Premier League Sean will be able to play there."
