Gyepes Creepers. Gabor scores in City win

The Bluebirds were in front inside 10 mins when Jay Bothroyd scored his 5th goal of the season. It could have got better for City but Michael Chopra saw his effort cleared of the line ater he'd picked up on a sloppy back pass and rounded the keeper.

City's sublime football ws rewarded though in the 26th minute when Gabor Gyepes was set up and he made no mistake from 12 yards.

City were dealt a blow when Chopra went off with a hamstring injury on 35 mins. On came Eddie Johnson who didn't manage to see the game out as he was subbed himself later in the game.

Ipswich gave themselves a chance in the 42nd minute when a Jon Sead header reduced the arrears.

Any hope of an Ipswich comeback though was blown away when Ben Thatcher twice fouled Wayne Routledge inside 2 minutes and saw red after the second challenge.

Routledge saw a later cross/shot tipped onto the bar as City saw out the win.

Full credit to Dave Jones who didn't give Steve McPhail a free pass into the starting line up. McPhail started on the bench after his 2 game suspension. He did see some action when he replaced earlier sub Eddie Johnson.

The win was City's first at Portman Rd since 1946 and capped a super week where City picked up 7 points from 9 available against top half sides.

Next week Sheff Weds visit Ninian Park before City make a Boxing Day trip to Reading.

The city camp are heading off now for their Christmas Party and best of luck to them.

The table shows City in 5th place and right in the mix.
