Hundreds of thousands line the Cardiff streets to welcome home Wales

Cardiff hosted a Welsh party in the sunshine yesterday to welcome home the Euro 2016 semi finallists, Wales.

Hundreds of thousands of people flooded the area around Cardiff Castle and lined the streets through town, Canton and en route to Cardiff City Stadium.

With some observers, media and high profile figures claiming that Wales are celebrating failure the numbers of people cheering the heroic Welsh squad heartily disagreed. Wales might not have won a trophy but they inspired a nation, lit up a tournament and became probably the smallest country to go that far in the competition's history. The achievement cannot be underestimated.

After landing at Cardiff Airport two coaches transported the FAW party to Cardiff Castle where the players and staff transferred to two open top busses.

A parade then left the castle and via St Mary St, back up Westgate St and Cowbridge Road as it headed into Canton and on to Cardiff City Stadium.

All the way welsh flags were raised and songs sung. Thousands more were at CCS when the busses arrived. The players moved into the stadium which had been filling up as a number of music acts performed including Mike Peters.

The main party kicked off with Manic St Preachers playing three songs, 'You Stole The Sun From My Heart', 'Design or Life' and 'Come On Wales' - The official song of the tournament for Wales.

There were plenty of on pitch interviews and Euro 2016 highlights as the manager and players were introduced to the crowd.

An excellent end to a remarkable month for Wales. Hopefully the FAW will take a roadshow or two to other parts of the country as well to give those fans who live away from Cardiff a chance to have their own celebrations.
