Thompson was originally ruled out until Christmas or even the new year but here he is, Matchday 5 and not even over half way through September and he's back in action and in the goals.
City needed a Thommo like figure and now he is back in action.
Thompson is still on the transfer list but right now he could be like a new signing.
"I'm delighted for Steve, he's come back sooner than we expected and got the leveller," said Jones.
"He had done nothing else but train before today. Because of the injuries we have - Darren Purse, Glenn Loovens, Riccy Scimeca and Steve MacLean - I decided to get Steve involved rather than turn to youngsters.
"That goal will give him the biggest lift he could have after the last six months.
"It's great to see him back - Thommo is a real handful when he is in full flight.
