The Bluebirds skipper has played on through injuries in the last two Nationwide League matches, but manager Lennie Lawrence admits: "That was a mistake."
Kavanagh has tried to shrug off niggling ankle and calf injuries, eventually limping off during the second half of Cardiff's 1-0 defeat against Coventry City at Ninian Park.
"Kavanagh is an important player to us and he wanted to play," said Lawrence.
"But it has rebounded on him and he is touch and go for Saturday's match against Norwich.
