Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust, backed by Cardiff City Football Club, is organising our seventh foodbank collection this Christmas to help those in food poverty – including children – in the Rhondda area.
A food donation point will be set up from 12.30pm close to the Trust office, near Gate 5, before Cardiff City’s clash with Doncaster Rovers on Saturday, December 13th, 2025. The collection will close at 2.45pm just before kick-off.
Here is a list of food items most urgently needed by the Rhondda Foodbank: Instant mashed potato, curry sauce, meatballs. tinned ham, potatoes, carrots and spaghetti and pasta sauce. Other food donations are also very welcome but NO short-date perishable food, please.
Foodbank Manager Theresa Thomas said: “ Across our whole network we work with over 30 volunteers and we would be unable to run the foodbank without their help.
“Last year we fed over 4,000 people, 1,500 of which were children. From April this year, we have already fed 2,200 people to date. We live in an area of high child poverty and deprivation and the cost of living crisis and heating bills have caused the perfect storm of impacting our food donations but increasing foodbank use. We work with over 60 agencies and 30 schools and demand is rising.
“We are grateful to Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust and Cardiff City Football Club for their support for the foodbank. We appreciate the opportunity to bring our foodbank needs to the attention of your club and its supporters.”
Trust Vice-Chair Mike Spear said: “This will be the Trust’s seventh collection and in a time of continuing rising food prices we are doing our little bit to support those individuals and families, including children, in most need of help.
“The Trust has always had a fantastic response from Bluebirds fans who have proved time and time again how generous they are. So we once again appeal to supporters to give whatever they can afford to – whether it is a single jar of food or a bag of items. Anything donated will make Christmas a little easier for families and individuals on the breadline.”
Mike Spear once again thanked Cardiff City Football Cub, its staff and players for fantastic support they continue to give to the Trust’s foodbank collections.
Trust member and former vice-chair David Craig (pictured) paid a visit to the foodbank ahead of our collection to talk to staff and look at the wonderful work they do helping the most vulnerable.
The Rhondda foodbank was helped previously by a Trust collection and that was back in 2021. It was the second foodbank to be started in Wales in 2009. They currently serve the Rhondda Fach and the Rhondda Fawr from our warehouse in Tylorstown. There is a foodbank available to people every day (not weekends) in both valleys managed by Rhondda Foodbank.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday – Tylorstown; Wednesday – Hope Church, Tonypandy; Thursday – Salvation Army, Pentre; Friday – Maerdy Community Centre and also Blaenycwm Chapel, Treherbert.
