West Ham Identify Target to Replace Hapless Roberto as Lukasz Fabianski's Number Two

West Ham could be set to move for Cardiff City goalkeeper Neil Etheridge, with the club looking to sign a goalkeeper to play second fiddle to Lukasz Fabianski.

Backup keeper Roberto has been a disaster in the absence of the Pole, making a number of costly and high-profile mistakes. As a result, the Hammers are looking to sign someone to provide competition to Fabianski.

David Martin has impressed at times, with his highlight being a clean sheet against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. However, he is far from what is required to be a top-level Premier League goalkeeper.

As a result, The Sun claim that West Ham are looking to sign Etheridge in goal, but only if they miss out on former Hammers goalkeeper Darren Randolph.

Randolph played for the club between 2015 and 2017 before joining Middlesbrough for around £5m. The London club are keen on bringing the 32-year-old back to the London Stadium, but are concerned about a potentially high fee.

As a result, Etheridge has emerged as a strong candidate. However, Cardiff won't be keen on losing one of their key men, especially since they are just two points off a playoff place.

West Ham will be looking to turn their fortunes around in the league as soon as possible, as they sit just one place outside the relegation zone – needing improvements in both form and results quickly.

With David Moyes now appointed manager of the Hammers once more, he will be looking to bring in some fresh faces in an attempt to help them climb up the Premier League table.

Burnley FC v Brighton & Hove Albion - Premier League

The Scot's first game in charge is a huge clash on New Year's Day with fellow relegation battlers Bournemouth. A win for either team would be absolutely massive, in what is undoubtedly a relegation six-pointer.
