Weston: 'Gabbidon more than capable of playing in the Premiership'

"Cardiff are now going to find it very, very hard to keep hold of Danny," Weston told the Western Mail

"He did well on Saturday and you can see he's more than capable of playing in the Premiership."

Daniel Gabbidon has recently sighned a new contract that runs until 2008 but as we've seen before contracts mean nothing when a wad of cash is waived around. The transfer window opens in January and an early favourite to make a move for Gabbidon are Blackburn, managed of course by Mark Hughes.

"The strikers who play in the Premier League are outstanding, world class. But I can't see Danny struggling in the Premiership," continued Weston.

"We have a tough job on our hands keeping him at Cardiff, that's all I can say. Our manager at Cardiff, Lennie Lawrence, knows what he's got in Danny. Danny signed a contract extension a couple of weeks ago but contracts don't mean as much as they used to.

"If a club wants you badly enough then that club will pay the money to get you, simple as that. I think that will be the case with Danny. When the time is right and the right club comes in for him then we should shake Danny's hand and wish him all the best because he deserves a shot at the Premiership."

Rhys himself is hoping to play a part for Wales against Poland. He says he is fully fit now after a hamstring problem and could even start the game to allow Simon Davies to move from right back to his more favoured attacking midfield role. Weston will have to fight for his place at Cardiff after a solid few games from loan player Darren Williams.

"The manager may feel it's too soon for me to play 90 minutes but I'm fit and available for selection. I've kept myself fit and I feel pretty good. If I'm picked, I'm sure I can come through 90 minutes."
