Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho says he was left "absolutely furious" after being given what he now believes was an inaccurate account of an incident involving Cardiff City defender Krystian Bielik and a supporter during Saturday's game.
Bielik became involved in a confrontation with a supporter while attempting to collect the ball from the crowd during the latter stages of Portsmouth's victory over Cardiff.
Hampshire Police subsequently confirmed that an investigation had been opened following a report that a teenage boy had been the victim of a common assault.
Mousinho apologised to members of the Cardiff squad after the match and criticised the supporters involved. However, speaking ahead of Portsmouth's upcoming game against Charlton, he explained that his initial reaction had been based entirely on information passed on to him at the time.
"I've now seen the footage and my comments post-match were entirely based off what I was told," Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent.
"When the altercation kicked off I couldn't see it from where I was myself, the referee then spoke to us and his words at the time were very clear that he had seen the incident in its entirety.
"He said that as Krystian went over to get the ball, the fan slapped him, and a second fan threw a ball at Perry Ng's head."
Mousinho's comments immediately after the match attracted criticism from sections of the Portsmouth support. Having since watched footage of the incident himself, the Pompey boss admitted he was particularly frustrated at the circumstances in which he had made his original statements.
A number of supporters inside the stadium had reacted at the time as though Bielik had grabbed the young supporter by the throat.
"My first reaction having seen it back was that I was absolutely furious having been put in that position," he added.
"What actually transpired is something that I need to sort out between myself and the referees' association which I'm trying to do.
"On the incident itself there's an ongoing police investigation into assault of a minor, so I don't think it's appropriate for me to comment on that."
Pro Ref, which is responsible for refereeing across Premier League, EFL and Football Association competitions, has been approached for a response.
