Cardiff v Watford. Match preview

Last updated : 28 October 2003 By Footymad Previewer
Watford come to Ninian Park tonight as a form team. They are unbeaten in the last 6 games after a poor start to the season. City themselves have only lost one in the last six so it promises to be an even game.

Cardiff must not be complacent. Just because we performed well against West Ham we can think to will stroll past Watford. Lennie Lawrence is well aware of this

"By First Division standards, this match with Watford is not a big game - but for us it's a potential banana skin," said Lawrence

"We find ourselves in the unusual situation this season of being clear favourites. We are expected to win this game.

"We have to make sure we are as focused and switched on as we are in the big games, such as the one against West Ham on Saturday."

Cardiff are likely to be unchanged. Gavin Gordon was subbed with cramp on Saturday but is fit and ready to play. It was said in the Echo on Monday that Willie Boland only received a two game ban and would be available for selection today. The official website today though say he is still suspended and not available. If he is available then the best would likely be a place on the bench.

City probable

Alexander, Croft, Vodmar, Gabbidon, Barker, Langley, Kavanagh, Bonner, Robinson, Earnshaw, Gordon.

Andy Campbell completes his suspension tonight while it's Richard Langleys last game before he serves a one match ban. City are still without the injured Lee, Thorne, Weston, Bowen and Young.

Watford boss Ray Lewington is expected to name the same side that beat Wimbledon 3 - 1 at Milton Keynes last Saturday.

Preview from Watford fans site.

City played Watford over 2 legs in the league cup in 1984, the Hornets winning 3 - 2 on agg.

The last time the two teams met at Cardiff in the league was amazingly over twenty years ago, in April 1982, with Cardiff running out comfortable 2-0 winners in a Second Division match.
