The way looks to have been cleared for Darren Purse to join Cardiff City. The official website has confirmed today that Neil Alexander, Tony Warner, Chris Barker, Alan Lee and Rhys Weston have agreed new contracts on "significantly" lower wages.

The statement goes onto say that the actions of these players will allow the club to sign a key new player in the near future.

That new player is certain to be Darren Purse with Sam Hammam telling the BBC

"If I can put it bluntly, with that reduction (by the 5 players above) we can not only buy Purse but pay the wages for him."

Purse's agent said last night that Darren had chosen Cardiff and it would be a huge credit to Dave Jones and Sam for persueding Darren to move to Ninain Park instead of Southampton.

City's bid for Purse has been accepted by WBA and it's a matter of final details and an official announcement.
