The released City winger is said to be on the verge of a move back to London. Ainsworth joined City in a deal which brought him from Wimbledon until the end of the season. Lennie did not offer Gareth a new contract but did say he may be able to keep him at Ninian Park if budgets allowed.

Now it looks as if he is going to join QPR, the beaten play off finalists. Good luck to Gareth, he brought a touch of passion to Ninian Park and was instantly a cult hero.

Ian Holloway is also on the verge of completing the signing of striker Eric Sabin from Swindon.
