Graham Kavanagh and his Irish colleagues were settling down for dinner on Sunday evening when armed robbers targetted their hotel.

A shot was fired and a small amount of cash was stolen with two hooded raiders escaping into the night.

No one was hurt in the incident and the Irish squad will continue to stay at the Hotel and Country Club in Portmarnock.

"We had just sat down upstairs and there was commotion in the lobby when these armed gunmen came in." Kav told the Echo

"A gunman jumped over the reception desk and there was a bang, a gun-shot, and a man shouted, "get down, get down, get down.'"

"I have never seen anything like it. It was really scary. There were children and families in the foyer. Thankfully , it was all over very quickly."

Kav starts the game on Tuesday night when Ireland entertain Canada at Lansdowne Rd.
