Arsenal v Cardiff City. Match preview

Last updated : 16 February 2009 By Michael Morris
Cardiff City head to Arsenal tonight for a one off champagne fixture with nothing to lose. The Bluebirds aren't expacted to win with bookies offering odds of 10/1 against a City victory.

Cardiff's main aim this season is the Championship, and that's set up nicely with the other clubs around in the top 6 trying their best not to win games, Wolves lost again on the weekend and Cardiff head to Molineux on Sunday for a game with far more ipmortance riding on it than tonight's encounter in London.

That said it's still a match I'd love to see us win. Of course it would be a huge shock and it would add more congestion to an already tight fixture schedule but with the draws made for rounds 5 and 6 already City would be two home games away from another trip to Wembley. We lived a dream last season, why not again?

On the pitch tonight it's who's not playing rather than who is. Cardiff are without Peter Enckelman who is injured. Tom Heaton comes in. The new loan keeper Dimi Konstantopolous is inelligible because he is cup tied and if he wasn't he signed after the original fixture so would not be able to play anyway. That goes for both Michael Chopra and Quincy (both could play in the next round if we get through). City will be with out Steve McPhail on the bench. He is out injured. The cancellation of last weeks fixture at Charlton looks to have given Gabor Gyepes and Peter Whittingham time to recover from injuries.

City line up (probable)

Heaton, McNaughton, Johnson (R), Gyepes, Kennedy, Burke, Rae, Ledley, Parry, McCormack, Bothroyd.

Subs from Sak, Blake, Purse, Scimeca, Johnson (E), Whittingham, Comminges.

Arsenal are missing new signng Andre Arshavin (same as Chopra and Quincy, not signed and registered aheadof the first match). Eboue is suspended and Adabayor injured. Aaron Ramsey is an injury doubt.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of new names in the Arsenal line up tonight with it being a home fixture against a lower league side Arsene Wenger may give a couple of younger players a run out.

He may als give Eduardo a start. One year on from the broken leg that threatened to end his career.

The game is live on Setanta Sports and kicks off at 7:45pm.
