Earnie celebrates with Gary Speed
Azerbaijan came out of the blocks running as they put pressure on the Welsh but after only 8 mins a Simon Davies corner was headed home by Gary Speed. Wales put in a professional performance and will be glad to have overcome the Azzeri without conceeding a goal.

Wales needed a second goal to make the game safe and it came from John Hartson on 68 mins. Another header, this time from a Simon Davies free kick.

Rob Earnshaw put in a lot of running and worked very hard, he took some kicks from the home defence and he played for 89 minutes before coming off to be replaced by Neil Roberts.

Mark Delaney, who was slightly injured last weekend, was taken off when Wales went 2 up and Rhys Weston played out the last 20 mins.

Wales have 9 points from 3 games, Yugoslavia 4 points from 2 games and Italy 4 points from 3 games. Wales are +5 in goals as well.

Wales' next game is at the Millennium Sttadium on March 29th against Azerbaijan followed by an away fixture against Yugoslavia 4 days later.

Congratulations to Mark Hughes and all the players.
