Battle of the teams in form

Sam Hammam's old friend Dario Gradi bring his Crewe side to Ninian Park on Saturday with nothing to fear. Crewe, relegated from Division 1 last season have made a solid start to the new campaign and are unbeaten away from Gresty Rd this season.

Their only defeat came at home against Notts County. Crewe, like City, are looking forward to a glamour Worthington Cup tie next week. The Railwaymen play what could be considered a derby game at Maine Rd against Manchester City.

Crewe have won at Wycombe (2 - 1) and Mansfield (5 - 0) and have drawn at Northampton, Huddersfield and Peterborough in their 5 away league games so far this season. Their Worthington Cup first round win was away at Port Vale.

With Gradi widely regarded as one of the best managers in the Nationwide League, and also the longest serving manager, his side will be no kick and rush merchants. City can expect to be involved it a quality football game between two good footballing sides.

Gradi told the Echo

"Both clubs will be up there at the end of the season. Crewe and Cardiff are strong contenders for automatic promotion."

Lennie Lawrence recognises Crewe's talents

"They are the only team in Division Two who can pass the ball as well as us. Crewe are a strong outfit and they will pose a difficult test for us. Their current form is excellent, our current form is pretty good and it will be close."

Team news for this fixture will follow on Friday. No changes are expected from Cardiff City.
