Bitter Bircham buggers up Kav's big night

QPR's Marc Bircham (remember him from the play off final, blue and white hair style - he still has it) crocked Graham Kavanagh in the early minutes of Ireland's 3 - 0 win over Canada.

Bircham inflicted an ankle injury on Kav in the opening 10 mins of the game and despite trying to go on Kav as taken away to hospital for X rays.

Manager Brian Kerr does not think it's too serious but it's a worry for City fans who remember all too well the several months Alan Lee has missed since being injured away with Eire. This time it was the actions of Bircham that has caused concern and not an inhouse injury.

"Graham was very unfortunate - but the word I've got is that the injury is not very serious," said Kerr. "He's definitely twisted his ankle but we don't believe it's broken."

Kav made a strong but fair challenge on Bircham who reacted by going in heavy only a minute or so later. He escaped without so much as a booking but has made himself public enemy No. 1 with City fans for his tackle that saw Kav off the field before all the crowd had taken their seats.

Hopefully Kav will be back for the weekend but that's a hope rather than a reality and hopefully Brian Kerr will make sure his name is first on the teamsheet for Irelands next game. He had a massive chance tonight and it does not deserve to be ruined by Bircham's bad behaviour.
