Bluebirds beat Wednesday at CCS

Danny Gabbidon and Scott Young managed Cardiff to a 2 - 1 win over a Sheffield Wednesday side who were looking for a third straight victory.

With the eyes of manager in waiting Russell Slade watching from the stands the rookie managerial duo selected a side that finally found how to win a game.

Aron Gunnarsson went close with a header before City won a free kick on the right after a deliberate handball. Peter Whittingham's pinpoint cross was powerfully headed home by Sean Morrison.

It was the visitors who were sharper earlier on in the game and City were grateful to Fabio for clearing an effort off the line after Marshall was beaten.

The lead lasted only a few Minutes into the second half when a hesitant Cardiff failed to clear and Morrison turned a cross into his own net.

That would usually have been the cue for City to crumble but after weathering some Wednesday pressure (who were followed by the way by a great away following) it was Cardiff who started to control the game and create chances.

In fact it was refreshing to see the side pass the ball forward and a run and cross from Craig Noone was met by Kenwynne Jones, as the ball fell Pilkington managed to control and find space to slam the ball home from 6 yards.

Loan signing Ravel Morrison came on for Noone and he showed he can be really good player if he focuses on his football. City fashioned several chances that on another day could have seen decent efforts on goal. There was always a worry that late Wednesday pressure would yield a goal but City held firm and nearly made it 3-1 but Macheda's 95th minute goal was ruled offside.

So Gabbidon / Young have earned four points from six in the League (ignoring the woeful cup game in the week). With away games this week at Brighton (Tuesday) and Blackpool (Friday on Sky) will they get chance to win some more or will Slade rock up and take the reigns?
