BLUEBIRDS DOWN UNDER SUPPORTERS GATHERING

Last updated : 01 December 2002 By Richard Jeffrey (Sydney Blue)

Date: Monday, 9 December 2002

Time: 6pm – till we are asked to leave

Location: Bayview Tavern, 166 Victoria Rd, Gladesville 2111 NSW
(02) 9817 2632

The publican is letting us have the place for free and he’s going out of his way to help us make it a good evening, so let’s show respect please lads…..I know you will.

How to get there:

By car. Gladesville is on the North Shore. If you are coming from the north or west head for Ryde and then get onto Victoria Rd. If you are coming from the south or the Eastern Suburbs you go over the Gladesville Bridge and then head in the direction of Ryde. Good parking in Cowell St opposite tavern.

By bus. Go from George St in the city near King St. (Close to Wynyard train station) Take X18, L20, X00 or X15 bus. It’s a 20 min trip. Ask to be put off at Meriton St. The Bayview Tavern is opposite Cowell St.

By train. Forget it. There are no train stations in Gladesville.

By air. As it's directly under the flight path for Sydney Airport, aircraft fly over the pub approximately every 5 minutes. If travelling by air it’s wiser to get off at the terminal, then take a taxi.

What’s happening?

STOP PRESS!!! Wayne Nash and Neil Hughes from the CCFC Media Dept have kindly agreed to put together a compilation of all the best parts of the recent games, (up to and including the Tranmere replay next week) and if the postie is on time we will have it to show during the evening.

And it get’s better!!! Nigel Harris (NigelBlues) and Mark Watkins are sending across the quiz questions from the evening they had recently at The Lansdowne, so we’ll be running a mini-quiz during the evening with some great prizes………(sh*t ..where am I going to get prizes from??) using the same questions they had in Cardiff. I’m told all the questions are City related, so do your homework lads. (No checking up with anyone who was at The Lansdowne for the answers either.) Quiz master for the evening will be long time Bluebird supporter and Sydney resident Jim Welsh.

Apart from that, quiet chat, a few beers, and watch some recent City games.

Cost

It’s a free evening you just pay for what you drink and what you eat. The place seems to have a pretty good bistro-type restaurant. As a mark of respect to the late Phil Suarez we will be holding a collection, with all funds being sent back to Wales to be passed on to the Cancer Society nominated by Phil's partner. Many Bluebird expats have enjoyed Phil's commentaries over the last few years, and this is a great way of acknowledging him. They raised 500 quid at the Lansdowne function so let’s do our bit.
