City came up against a solid Wigan side at Ninian Park last night and failed to breakthrough.

Wigan under Paul Jewell reminded me of George Graham's Arsenal. Build from the back and look to keep a clean sheet every game. Many teams will struggle against Wigan and City were unlucky not to have won the game.

The majority of chances and possession belonged to City but the extra bit of quality to unlock the Latics defence was missing.

The game was played at a fair pace in the first half with both teams passing the ball around with neither actually taking full control.

City came closest to scoring in the first half, Thorne unlucky not to chip Filan in the Wigan goal and then seeing a powerful header flash inches wide.

Mark Bonner put a couple of shots high and wide while a City free kick on the edge of the box missed by inches as Kav's shot was deflected (damn, I had a pound on him for first scorer). Kav was man of the match again. It's like he's had a new engine fitted, always looking for the ball and appearing all over the pitch. A call up for Ireland on Thursday must be close.

The second half saw Wigan tighten up more at the back, I though Horsfield and Ellington were quite isolated up front on their own.

City continued to dominate possession but the crisp passing was missing with too many stray balls and any cross into the box was dealt with by Wigan as Thorne and Earnie got very little change from Jackson and Breckin.

Horsfield and Thorne missed the two best chances of the game. The Wigan striker found space in the City box only to blast over Alexanders bar and with the clock ticking down Thorne did the same when he looked good to score.

Lennie didn't use any subs, maybe bringing Campbell on to mix it up a bit would have been an option.

Earnie struggled to find space and was asked the impossible several times when high balls were played towards him.

Overall not a bad game of football. Last year this would have been tedious but both teams have raised a level. Obviously we want to win every game but I think a draw and a clean sheet can be seen as a positive.

A crowd of over 15,100 contained about 50 travelling fans. Still 3,000 spaces for City fans to fill, something we will probably do against West Ham in 25 days time but it will always be difficult with the restrictions on buying tickets for friends and family who are not members.

City now have three away games in a row. Crystal Palace, Sunderland and Coventry. They are followed by West Ham and Watford at home.

So after 10 games we are 9th in the table. Great work, well done to all on the season so far. We'll need to be strong in October, look at the 5 games we have to play.
