Bluebirds to appeal Jimmy's red card

Cardiff City will appeal Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's red card.

The Dutchman was sent off in the 62 minute when referee Kevin Wright decided that Hasselbaink's effort for a 50/50 ball was dangerous play. Hasselbaink went off and the 10 men lasted 9 minutes before conceeding an equaliser.

"It wasn't a sending off and we will appeal," said Dave Jones. "Hopefully, the referee might take another look and decide it was a harsh decision.

"Jimmy went for the ball and never took his eyes off it. If the goalkeeper had caught Jimmy would it have been a penalty?

"If the suspension stands it will be a killer. We are already without Kevin McNaughton because of injury. Jimmy is a key part of our team and it's a real blow."

Geraint Williams backed Jones' claim, saying: "It was a harsh decision to send Hasselbaink off.

"There was nothing malicious in the challenge. It was a ball he had to challenge for.

"The goalkeeper took a blow to the head, but that happens in football."

Should the ban stand Jimmy will miss three games returning for the cup semi final.
