Bristol City v Cardiff City. Early team news

The Dutchman was originally scheduled to return to Bristol late last week after attending his grandmother's funeral.

But the service was been put back and the 22-year-old loanee is due back in England on Monday night, and depending on his fitness, could go straight into Johnson's squad.

Fellow midfielder Gavin Williams has fully recovered from the head injury which ruled him out of the clash against Watford on December 28 and will be in contention.

Wales international Lewin Nyatanga serves a one-match ban following his sending-off against the Hornets meaning Christian Ribeiro and James Wilson will provide defensive cover on the bench.

Jamie McCombe remains absent through injury but forward John Akinde returned early from his loan spell at League One side Wycombe last week and could feature.

Cardiff boss Dave Jones is facing a mounting injury crisis.

The Bluebirds squad was hit by illness ahead of Saturday's 1-1 draw with Blackpool and they suffered a further blow when young striker Josh Magennis was stretchered off just half an hour into his first Championship start.

Magennis sustained a broken fibula following a 50-50 challenge and Jones will hope striker Jay Bothroyd recovers from the virus that forced him out of the Blackpool clash.

Fellow frontman Ross McCormack lasted 74 minutes despite also suffering with a virus and should be fit to start once again.

However midfielder Chris Burke is set to miss out after coming off with a rib injury at the weekend, while Joe Ledley continues to play despite carrying a hip injury
