Burton: 'I'm no threat to Lennie Lawrence'

Terry Burton will watch tonights game bewteen his former employers Watford and his new employers Cardiff City, from the Ninian Park Directors Box.

Lennie may not be wanting to discuss Burtons possible appointment but the man himself confirms his new role.

"I'm no threat to Lennie Lawrence," Burton told the Echo.

"My job is to work alongside Lennie Lawrence for the good of Cardiff City. He is manager and I am his assistant. I hope I work at Cardiff City for many years - and that Lennie Lawrence is here even longer than me.

"Nothing else has been mentioned by Sam or me and it's my sincere hope that it never will be mentioned. Lennie and I both know our jobs and we'll be together a long time if we make a success of it - and there is no reason we shouldn't."

Burton comes in to replace Ian Butterworth who was sacked a week or two ago. In recent history it's not taken long for the new man to take over the head job. Bobby Gould was replaced by his assistant Alan Cork. Corky then found himself under terrible pressure with results going against him and knowing that an experienced man like Lennie Lawrence was waiting in the wings after being brought to the club by Sam. Now Lawrence is the one under pressure and Burton's appointment would surely mean he's take charge if Lawrence's position became untenable.

Give me 12 games Lennie says, well tonight is match 8 and we are one place from the bottom of the table.

It doesn't take too much working out does it?
