Cancer surgery this week for Andy Legg

Andy Legg will have surgery this week to remove a tumour from his neck.

The 38 year old is currently playing for Peterborough and last Saturday played at Blackpool before preparing for his operation this week.

The severity of the operation means it could spell the end of his playing career as he battles to overcome the suspected recurrance of his cancer.

'It will probably be my last professional game (at Blackpool) as the consultants have warned me I could lose the movement in my neck, shoulder and arm," Legg told the Echo.

'It's simply not worth taking a chance playing professional football after that.

'Obviously, that is the worst possible scenario, but they have to tell me what they are up against, and it doesn't look too clever at the moment.'

Legg's boss at Peterborough, Barry Fry told the official Posh website

"Andy has given his all for Peterborough United in very difficult circumstances and nobody has been more passionate and committed to try and get the club out of the relegation zone than Leggy. He has been outstanding both on and off the field for Posh and myself and everyone connected with Peterborough United would like to wish Andy well for the operation."

Good luck and best wishes to Andy Legg, lets hope things go well for him.
