It sees the Bluebirds up to 7th place in the Championship and while there is a 6 point gap to the play off places the presence of Cardiff appearing in the rear view mirror of Bournemouth and Reading is going to test their resolve if City keep up this charge.

A slow burner of a game saw chances at a premium. Coventry liked to keep the ball and pass it around and while Cardiff managed to get the ball into the net Aden Flint was offside.

But step up the Murphy and Moore show. A great run and pass down the left from Josh Murphy played in Kieffer Moore and with work still to do City's top scorer cut in and fired Cardiff ahead on 31 mins.

Less than 10 minutes later and a Will Vaulks long throw caused mayhem in the Coventry defence and Moore, unmarked at the far post, gratefully accepted the chance to score.

The next goal of the game was going to be huge and it was Cardiff that scored it. Moore won a free kick on the right edge of the box less than a minute into the second half. Perry Ng reacted quickly to send Josh Murphy clear into the box and the winger made no mistake to make it 3 - 0.

Coventry played some good football and put Cardiff under pressure and on 81 mins pulled one back. Dominic Hyam blasted home from close range. It was the least they deserved after earlier hitting the bar when it looked easier to score.

The final onslaught never materialised though. Cardiff managed the game out to catapult themsleves above the likes of Middlesbrough, Preston and Blackburn.
