Cardiff City have completed the signing of keepr Alex Smithies from Q.P.R.

The fee, officially described as 'undisclosed' is thought to be for an initial £3m rising if Cardiff avoid relegation.

City boss Neil Warnock has long been an admirer of the 28 year old Yorkshireman.

“I wondered if he just has a blinder when he plays against us," said Warnock. "But having watched Alex for a while, there is no doubting his pedigree.

“He’s a lad that knows he will have to fight for his place. Neil Etheridge had a fabulous season in 2017/18 and improved as time went on. It’s great for us to have that healthy competition.”

Smithies, Player of the season at QPR in 2016 / 17 has made over 350 career League appreances for Huddersfield and Rangers.
