The Italians wanted to sign Medel on an initial loan and now it looks like it's going to be a permanent deal they are trying to secure a transfer that would see just 1m euro paid up front.

Cardiff want to recover most of the £11m or so paid for Medel last summer. After a starring role at Brazi 2014 Dalman believes his value should not have decreased.

With Galatasary and possibly a German club also interested City want their money back and will not sell on the cheap.

Dalman said: “We are not going to take a loss on a player who was a World Cup star in Brazil.

“We have made it clear what our price is and that won’t change.”

It is clear that despite Inter’s confidence about landing the Chile midfielder, they remain a long way from reaching agreement on a transfer.

City will not accept a loss on a player they signed for around £11m from Sevilla a year ago, and won’t be bullied into accepting a lower fee.

“We will do the right thing for Cardiff City and the player,” said Dalman.

“Our position has not changed.

“There are clubs interested in him, but we have not reached agreement with anybody so far.

“We will not take a loss on a player who did so well for Chile in Brazil.”

Medel is still in Chile recovering from an injury picked up in Chile's defeat to Brazil but he is due back to Cardiff next week.

“I can reveal that we are negotiating to sign the player, the negotiations are at a very advanced stage,” Inter director of football Piero Ausilio said.

“It is a player who we like a lot, even if nothing has been completed yet.”

Inter won a penalty shoot out against Real Madrid last night in the USA.
