Cardiff v Bristol City. Match preview

The Bluebirds stood by their player, criticising "ill-informed and emotive" comments in some quarters concerning his decision.

Manager Dave Jones is expected to retain Parry in midfield, especially as Mark Kennedy faces a late fitness test on his hamstring.

Miguel Comminges should retain his place in defence with Riccardo Scimeca facing another six weeks on the sidelines recovering from ankle ligament damage sustained in the Carling Cup tie with MK Dons.

Tony Capaldi (back) is out for another fortnight, but right-back Kevin McNaughton appears to have recovered from his knee worries.

Back-up could be scarce, as Darcy Blake was withdrawn 21 minutes into Wales Under-21s 3-0 win over Romania, reportedly suffering from facial injuries, while Gavin Rae remains a long-term absentee with knee problems.

Marvin Elliott could be included in Bristol City's squad for the first time this season.

Midfielder Elliott has been sidelined since suffering a knee injury over the summer but played 75 minutes as reserves thumped Bournemouth 6-0 in midweek.

"He has got a chance of being involved. He had a good run-out in the reserves and he did well," said City manager Gary Johnson, who was sent to the stands in the corresponding fixture at Ninian Park last season.

The international break has allowed some of City's injured players time to recover and, with the exception of Jamie McCombe (fractured cheekbone), Johnson could have a full-strength squad to choose from as defenders Andy Webster and Jamie McAllister are nearing full fitness after respective calf and ankle problems.

John Akinde, a £140,000 signing from Ebbsfleet United last week, could also be included in the squad.
