bellamyrainThe 33-year-old missed the Bluebirds' victory over Ipswich having taken a bang to his knee but his comeback against Watford lasted just 45 minutes and he was replaced at the interval after his ankle swelled up following a challenge during the first half.

Tommy Smith also had to be withdrawn in the 2-1 victory over the Hornets with a tight hamstring and both players will be out for a number of weeks.

Craig Conway and Joe Mason are waiting in the wings to step in while former Birmingham midfielder Jordon Mutch is expected to be available after recovering from a foot injury.

City set a new club record of winning the opening six home games of the season for the first time in their history. That record will be extended if they can overcome managerless Burnley.

Clarets winger Ross Wallace is rated as 50-50.

Wallace was set to be part of an unchanged XI named by caretaker boss Terry Pashley for the 4-3 win at Bristol City on Tuesday night, but pulled up with a hamstring injury in the warm-up.

Martin Paterson was named in his place and netted the Clarets' third goal on a dramatic evening at Ashton Gate.

Defender Ben Mee will sit out the action this weekend having picked up a fifth booking of the season in midweek, with Joseph Mills poised to return to the starting line-up at left-back. Midfielder Marvin Bartley is an injury absentee due to a groin complaint.

Pashley is chasing his third consecutive win at the helm since stepping in for the outgoing Eddie Howe earlier this month.
