Cardiff v Cardiff. Big action downunder

Last updated : 24 September 2004 By Jim Welsh

This weekend sees the biggest game in Australia for decades - Cardiff NSW v Cardiff (SW) - as the members of Bluebirds DownUnder head up the coast to take on their Australian counterparts. The big social match against Cardiff (NSW) Football Club is confirmed for this Saturday - 12.30pm kick off - followed by a barbeque and social events at local clubs - Cardiff Panthers and Cardiff RSL, where all BDU members will have guest status.

Bluebirds DownUnder are expecting a large turn-out with members flying in from over Australia for the game, and with local media coverage lined up. For any Bluebirds in Australia who have not heard about this event but wish to come: To get there, travel up the motorway from Sydney and take the Charlestown turnoff when you get near Newcastle. Turn right at the motorway roundabout and travel about 19kms along until you arrive in Cardiff. At Cardiff Toyota turn left and at the first roundabout you will see the grounds on your right.

KICK OFF IS AT 12.30PM BUT PLEASE AIM TO BE THERE AT LEAST 30 MINUTES BEFORE THAT IF YOU ARE PLAYING.

If you need a lift up, a small number of vehicles will be leaving The Kauri Hotel at 9am on the Saturday morning. Contact Captain Rich first (0409 491 867) if you need a lift, so we can make sure we have sufficient vehicles. Overnight accomodation can be obtained at the Cardiff Motor Inn.

After a night sampling the local wares (and for some of the lads hopefully some of the local lasses no doubt), on Sunday our sporting heroes will pop in to visit Swansea (NSW) for beach sports and a visit to Swansea Workers, and more than likely some singing much to the bemusement of the Aussie Jacks.

Hopefully either Cardiff's emphatic win will encourage the Bluebirds onto a great win of their own over Wolves!
