Cardiff v Norwich. Match preview

Last updated : 13 September 2014 By Michael Morris

Cardiff won on that occasion but it wasn't enough to help the Bluebirds to survival and the defeat for Norwich contributed to their demise as both clubs were relegated to the Championship.

Kenwyne Jones made his debut for Cardiff against Norwich and Jones' winning goal (pictured below) in the 2 - 1 victory was his only addition on the scoresheet as City exited the top flight.

Jones this season though has started with a much better return. With four goals in five games Jones is certain to start up front against The Canaries. With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having such a rich squad of players it's anyones guess who will accompany Jones up front. Chosse from Adam LeFondre, Federico Macheda or Javi Guerra.

With Craig Noone not quite ready to return ex Norwich player Anthony Pilkington could start against the team he left last month to join Cardiff.

Norwich boss Neil Adams said: "I'm sure Pilks will be fired up against us and it's always in the back of your mind that one of your former players will come back to hurt you."

Adams had good things to say about former Norwich keeper David Marshall.

"He is fantastic and was absolutely outstanding for Cardiff last season in the Premier League," said Adams.

"He kept his team in so many games almost single handed and some of the saves he made were simply world class.

"In my opinion he was the best goalkeeper in the Premier League last season and he deserved all the plaudits that came his way."

Another Cardiff player, Tom Adeyemi, was a trainee at Norwich and played twice for them in the league.

The Norwich squad includes Cameron Jerome and Gary O'Neil. Jerome scored for Crystal Palace against City last season. O'Neil is less likely to start but is available. Both Jerome and O'Neil playe alongside each other for Cardiff 10 years ago in the 2004 / 05 season.

Adams is coming to Cardiff expecxting his team to win the match.

“It’ll be a tough game, they were a Premier League team similar to ourselves last season, we know they are capable of winning games,” he continued.

“We’ve obviously watched all their games and we know they’ve got threats, they’ve got some good players.

“We’ve got plenty of good players ourselves, we’ll go there to win the game as we always will and we’ll be ready for what we are going to come up against.

“We’re certainly confident going there and I think we should be after the start we have had to the season, but we’ll show Cardiff the respect they deserve and we’ll be going there to win.”

Today's referee is Mark Haywood from West Yorkshire.
