"Tuesday will be a good game, we will give lots of players who need a game, a game. It'll give them the opportunity to be in the starting XI the Saturday after.

"It will be a different team, so they will need to perform to give me something to think about.

"You want to do as well as you can in competitions. It's a great game against a big club, I'm sure they'll travel in their numbers, the fans, and hopefully we can put on a good performance.

  • Portsmouth have alternated between being eliminated (3) and progressing (2) from their five League Cup ties against Cardiff, getting knocked out the last time they faced them in August 2017.
