Cardiff's Carling Cup Capitulation

Dave Jones made 10 changes from the team that beat Leeds. The only man to keep his place was Marvin Kamara, who, with all due respect, was not a first team regular anyway.

So basically a full City reserve team with Willo Flood and Roger Johnson the two "best" players in the line up. In fairness to them they were probably the best two City players on the night.

In all other areas we looked exactly what we were. A second string side.

Barnet didn't have to do much. We cocked up most things on our own.

They opened the scoring when a shocking Mark Howard clearance went straight to Kandol and he instictively reacted to fire home from 35yards. City had earlier missed a great chance, when through one on one Glombard dragged his effort wide. Roger Johnson had a few half chances at the back post from corners and free kicks.

10 mins into the second half and our failure to deal with a cross saw Kandol head home his second. It was also Barnet's second on target effort and they had no more after that. Two efforts on target, two goals!

City kept passing the ball then lumping it forward but we didn't look like scoring in a month of Sundays. The best chance came when a Flood effort hit the post but it was plain to see that we were all at sea. Joe Ledley and Paul Parry came on as late subs but it was too little too late. Hopefully the injury sustained by Joe Jacobson is not serious. The young left back was stretchered off late on. As City had used all three subs the game ended with only 10 bluebirds on the pitch. By the time the final whistle went there wasn't that many more fans still in their seats.

Well done to Barnet. It's a major scalp for them. Against a better team in the next round they will probably lose 4 - 0 but we failed to do that to them tonight by our apathetic aproach to a game that appears to be seen as little more than a chance to test some of the stiffs.

Ater such a good start in the league it's a shame we have supporters left with a bad taste in the mouth after shelling out £12 or £14 to see a reserve side play when next week they can see them for free in the Pontins Combination.
