Carling Cup review

Last updated : 14 August 2003 By Michael Morris
Leo FW and Garteth Ainsworth were at it again. Both scored as their teams Doncaster and QPR both progressed to round 2.

Doncaster Rovers were 2 down with 15 mins to go before Leo scored to start a comeback that saw Doncaster beat Grimsby 3 - 2. Des Hamilton was sent off for violent conduct.

Ainsworth scored as QPR came from behind to beat Cheltenham.

Another former City player scored to produce one of the shocks of the night. Josh Low gave Northampton an 8th minute lead over Norwich City and it was enough to create an upset.

Other shocks saw Darlington win at Bradford, Huddersfield knock out Derby, Oxford win at Millwall, Notts County win at Preston and Wycombe beat Wimbledon.

There was another goal for Paul Merson as Walsall came from behind to beat Carlisle.
