Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell told Cardiff's official website: "We are pleased to play our part inthe opening of such a prestigious new venue.

"It will be a fantastic occasion for both sets of supporters."

The teams last met in 2008 when Cardiff beat the Bhoys to take the one off Algarve Tournament.

The official opening of the new stadium will mark a moment that many City fans would never have believed possible. A new ground has been talked about for a long time and here we are about the play our first matches in it.

It will be a poignant occasion as both clubs remember Celtic's legendary boss Jock Stein, who died at Ninian Park.

Stein suffered a heart attack and died after Scotland's World Cup qualifier against Wales in September 1985.

City are set to play Chasetown prior to the Celtic game as the stadium looks to pass it's safety certificates. A further game against Valencia has been rumoured.
