Charlton match postponed

Last updated : 06 February 2009 By Michael Morris
Local referee Andy D'Urso inspected the pitch before midday today and declared the match off because of snow and ice.

So another game will have to be fitted into a schedule that is already getting tighter as the season goes on.

It's crazy that we now have 10 days before we face Arsenal. We can't play it next week because of international friendlies and then after that we have cup games, re-arranged fixtures, possibly more cup games and more internationals.

D'Urso said:

"The Football League called the game off based on the information
given by me.

"I told them that there is currently a covering of snow on three-
quarters of the pitch. Where the snow has thawed, there are puddles
of water.

"Due to the amount of snow and water, forking those areas would not
make the water go away.

"The weather forecast in terms of temperatures is minus three degrees
throughout the night, with temperatures only rising to one degree on
Saturday.

"With the temperatures overnight and the amount of water, the pitch
was likely to freeze."
