Chasetown backing the Bluebirds

The lowest team ever to reach the third round of the FA Cup have been the only team on the Cardiff City route to the final that have actually taken the lead against Dave Jones' side.

Courtesy of a Kevin McNaughton o.g. Chasetown led the FA Cup Finallists back at thier Church St ground in January. Little did they, or Cardiff know that the Bluebirds would go all the way to Wembley.

And now on Cup Final weekend Charlie Blakemore, manager of Chasetown has admitted he's behind the Bluebirds.

"I like Portsmouth and I like Harry Redknapp but my allegiance will be with Cardiff," he said

"I don't think our lads quite realise what's happened this season so it will be something to reflect on if we got knocked out by the winners.

"We are the only side to have taken the lead against them in the cup this season and what we have done will probably still not dawn on us for a while.

"I've been to a couple of Cardiff's games, including the semi-final against Barnsley. I met Dave Jones and he promised to bring a strong side to play us pre-season."

Blakemore was also grateful for the help given by City to stage the 3rd round tie at Church St.

"I will never forget what Cardiff City did for us that day," he continued.

"They not only allowed us to enjoy our day in the third round, they went out of their way to enhance the experience.

"I will never forget Dave Jones, a great manager and a thoroughly nice bloke, or Peter Ridsdale, a chairman Cardiff should be proud of.

"I will always have a place in my heart for Cardiff City and I'll be at Wembley on Saturday shouting my head off unashamedly in support of the Bluebirds.

"And their players should know that when they run out at Wembley there will be 4,000 people in our village rooting for them to beat Portsmouth."

Pre season friendly

As you can tell from Charlie Blakemore's comments City have agreed to play at Chasetown in a pre season friendly. More news on that and all other pre season games to follow after the Cup Final.
