City aiming for top spot. QPR match preview.

QPR will be reeling from their shock cup exit at home to Vauxhall Motors, their fans will expect a dramatic turnaround and a win against City. Cardiff look to be close to full strength. Daniel Gabbidon the only definite non starter.

Peter Thorne and Spencer Prior have come through their minor troubles and Willie Boland has been training and is very hopeful. City will be without Daniel Gabbidon for sure so either Chris Barker or James Collins will start in defence.

City are expected to line up. Alexander, Weston, Prior, Barker or Collins, Croft, Maxwell, Boland, Kavanagh, Legg, Thorne and Earnshaw. Subs from Margetson, Barker or Collins, Hamilton, Bowen, Bonner, Leo FW, Campbell.

I just wonder if Lennie might fancy changing slightly and starting with Jason Bowen at the expense of Layton Maxwell? If Boland fails to make it then either Bowen, Hamilton or Bonner could come in.

Rangers could make at least 5 changes from the side that were humbled by Vauxhall Motors. Gallen, Shittu, Willock, Angel and keeper Roye could all see a return to the side.

The match will be presided over by David Elleray.

City lost the corresponding fixture last season. A Kav penalty gave City a first half lead but two goals in 4 mins from Andy Thompson won the points for Rangers. 7 of the side that lost that game over 14 months ago should line up tomorrow.

The match report from Sep 25th 2001 can be found here.

City are looking to take over 2,000 supporters to London tonight, the game kicks off at 7:45pm. There will be chat room coverage from Gill, internet commentary on the official site and radio conmmentary from Radio Wales.

City have been in awesome form at Ninian Park, 8 wins in a row if you include the FA Cup replay, away from home it's been a little erratic. Only one win in the last 5 league games. That came at Mansfield, we've lost at Blackpool and Barnsley and drawn at Wigan and Plymouth.

City will have to overcome more than 30 years of waiting to get a league win tonight. Nov 7th 1970 was the last time City took all the points home from Shepherds Bush. Since that game they have lost 0 - 3, 0 - 3, 0 - 3, 0 - 2, 0 - 2 and then the 1 - 2 defeat last season.

Of course City did shock Rangers in the League Cup a couple of seasons ago when the Bluebirds won on penalties (Match report here). Andy Legg, Jason Bowen and Mark Bonner played in that game over 3 years ago.

The Bluebirds will go top with a win. We could be two points clear when the chasing pack start their games on Saturday afternoon. A point would see us stay second. Should we win we would open up a five point gap on Oldham in third place. Six points over 4th placed Bristol City.

The other teams are playing as follows.

Wigan entertain Northampton. Oldham visit Barnsley and 4th place Bristol City entertain 5th place Crewe. QPR are 6th, 10 points behind City. Hopefully it will be 13.

Have a great trip to Loftus Rd.
