City away to Barnsley on opening day

Last updated : 22 June 2006 By Michael Morris
There was talk that we might get a home opener this year with the Community Shield being played on August 13th. In previous seasons we have been away on that weekend. No deal though.

So we face Barnsley at Oakwell on Saturday August 5th. Barnsley of course beat Swansea at the Millennium Stadium last month to reach the Championship. It's a swift return to South Yorkshire for our new signing Stephen McPhail. Our other signing, Michael Chopra, is also a Barnsley old boy after a successful loan period there. He scored 17 goals in 38 starts for the Tykes.

City follow that with home games against WBA and Coventry in the first week of the season.

Other noticeable fixtures see Cameron Jerome returning to Ninian Park on August 26th, the last game is away at Ipswich and we have to face a trip to Sunderland during a midweek in October.
