Plenty of media stories on Wednesday climed that Peter Whittingham would sign for City yesterday from Aston Villa.

It's said the 22 year old midfielder was having a medical ahead of a potential £350,000 signing.

Whittingham is a former England U21 international. His last Premiership start for Villa was in November. He's stated twice and been a sub twice this season. In previous season's he's had loan spells at Burnley and Derby.

The Echo claimed on Wednesday that Martin O'Neill had agreed a deal and Whittingham, medical pending, would be signed and ready to join the squad for the visit of Southed on Saturday.
