City fail to illuminate Blackpool. Match reaction.

After a goalless first half you felt it was not going to be City's day. Too much giving away of possession and when in possession we were easily closed down by a Blackpool side who played well and wanted to get the ball when they were without it

City never took a hold of midfield and the first half produced few chances for the Bluebirds, Kavangh twice went close with efforts, one a long range shot, and one a free kick well saved by the keeper.

The Blackpool experience is a strange on this season, the pitch and two new stands occupy one part of the Bloomfield Rd "complex", the away South Stand is about 150 feet behind the goal and seems to be completely independant from the rest of the stadium. It was like being in a different place to watch the game.

City had more of the game in the second half but early on Blackpool profited from City's inability to keep the ball, a long ball forward found Hills in space and his cross was unluckily deflected past a helpless Alexander. After that City again struggled to keep the ball, their nice passing was just that, nice, but not effective, even when Leo came on we never played to his strengths. Andy Campbell had City's best chance late on he skewed wide when in a central position.

One thing that really worried me today was the reluctance to play the ball over the defence for Earnie to run on to. He ran the line and called for the ball time after time but was never given the chance to run at goal. Why? I don't know.

So it's another game at Blackpool without a win. That's still only one win in the last 50 years. Lennie's proud unbeaten away record has gone as well. Did we deserve to stay unbeaten today? Not really a draw would have been a big point gained. We can have liitle complaint at the result. Well done Blackpool, you caught us on an off day and reaped your reward.

If there is anything positive to come out of today its that only Wigan of the other top teams won. They take City's place at the top and have 30 points, we drop to second with 28 points but there was a shock as Oldham lost at home and then Q.P.R. only drew at Cheltenham. Form team Bristol City moved into third place after a 2 - 0 derby win at home to Swindon.

We have a week to lick our wounds now and prepare for next weeks live SKY game against Tranmere.
