City pay the penalty at Stoke

City did pull a goal back with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink getting his 8th of the season on 63 mins but Stoke were able to see the game out.

Dave Jones brouht Steve McPhail and Michael Oakes back into the starting line up with Ramsey and Enckelman on the bench.

Stoke went ahead in the 39th minute when Roger Johnson diverted a Stoke corner past Oakes and then doubled the lead in the 57th minute when Kevin McNaughton brought down Ricardo Fuller in the box. McNaughton was booked and Fuller recovered enough to score from the spot.

Jimmy scored City's goal on 63 mins but there was no way back for the Bluebirds.

Steve Thompson came on for the last 10 mins to replace Hasselbaink.

So the Manager of the Month curse strikes again. This defeat is Cardiff's first in 2008 and the first since the 1 - 0 reverse at Ashton Gate last December.

Next up City face Norwich at Ninian Park next Saturday with a midday kick off.
