City still conducting a striker hunt

We're still trying to bring in two strikers as Steve Thompson, Ross McCormack and Paul Parry is all we have." Jones told the BBC.

"We need more depth within the squad and that's what we're trying to get.

"I'm having to make Paul Parry a makeshift winger at the moment because Peter Whittingham is injured."

City have lost Jommy Floyd Hasselbaink and Robbie Fowler, missed out on Marcus Bent and seen an offer for Kris Boyd turned down.

There could be some light though, it's been reported that City have had a bid accepted for a young striker.

Chairman Peter Ridsdale today confirmed: "We have made a substantial offer for a player and we are hopeful of completing the deal quickly.

"I am talking to his agent, but we will keep the identity of the player private until we know exactly where we are.

"He is far from the only player we are interested in. I am working flat out to sign the players Dave Jones needs - we have been working hard on that for some time now."

Ridsdale does not want to reveal a signing prematurely in case it backfires like it did with Marcus Bent.
